Are you an Open Water diver who is ready to take your diving to the next level, improve your skills under the supervision of our PADI Instructors and learn more about the many different PADI specialities open to you? The PADI Advanced Open Water course is the ideal next step for you.
Who should take this course?
The PADI Advanced Open Water course is designed to advance your skills and is suitable for any Open Water diver - you can sign up immediately after your Open Water course if you like. The course helps build confidence and expand your scuba skills through five different Adventure Dives. You try out different specialties while gaining experience under the supervision of your PADI Instructor. You log dives and develop capabilities as you find new ways to have fun scuba diving.
You will receive either an Adventures in Diving manual or access to the Advanced Open Water online course. At home and at your own pace you will complete a small amount of reading about the five different adventure dives you will be undertaking for your Advanced Open Water course.
You will complete five different adventure dives over two days. Where possible and weather permitting we prefer to complete these dives in the sea and use venues including Babbacombe, Chesil Beach and carry out boat dives from Portland. Each dive is designed to introduce you to a different speciality course. A Deep dive and Navigation dive are compulsory with other potential dives including a Wreck dive, Peak Performance Bouyancy dive, Boat dive, Project Aware dive, Naturalist dive, or Drift dive. You and your instructor will discuss in advance which dives are of most interest to you and are most suitable for your course.
What do I need?
You will need a full set of dive kit suitable for the environmental and weather conditions. If you do not already have your own kit, we can rent you a set at a reduced rate for the duration of the course. You will require your own mask, fins, snorkel and boots as Dive Academy does not rent this equipment. Cylinder and weights will be provided at no additional charge.
On completion of your Advanced Open Water course you will be qualified to dive to 30 metres with a similarly qualified buddy. This is a great time to consider which specialities you would like to pursue and how you wish your dive education to evolve. Dive Academy offers the majority of PADI specialities and our dive team is always happy to chat with you about your interest, skills and what you feel would be the right next steps for you.
Are there any restrictions?
Participants in the PADI Advanced Open Water course must have previously completed an Open Water (or equivalent) training course and be at least 12 years of age. A medical form must be satisfactorily completed before lessons can commence.
Please check the medical form on a separate tab and ensure that you can complete this before booking your course.
