If you know someone who has always wanted to take scuba diving lessons and experience the adventure of the underwater world, we can help you with the perfect gift. You can now buy a gift card for the PADI Open Water Diver course - the world's most popular and recognised scuba course. This gift card also includes the PADI Dry Suit Diver course.
Gift cards come with their own greetings card for presentation to your lucky loved one.
The course is in three parts:
Using the PADI Open Water Touch system, students are able to learn academics at thier own pace using a computer connected to the internet, or download it to an Apple or Android tablet for offline completion. Students work through five sections introducing them to diving equipment, skills, problem management and the natural world. Multiple choice assessments help to track progress through the course.
Students will also receive a Dry Suit Diver manual to complete at home prior to pool training.
2. Pool Training
Pool training at Dive Academy begins with a quick review of academics and then we complete a practical session to understand how to assemble, put on, and disassemble a scuba unit. We then complete six pool dives including skin diving skills and a dry suit fitting and orientation session. Students do need to be able to swim - on the first evening there is a 200m swim (no time limit, but without stopping) and a 10 minute float or tread water.
3. Open Water Dives
Students complete five dives with one of our PADI Instructors to put into practice skills learned in the pool. Skills are repeated in Open Water to demonstrate competence to dive independently to up to 18 metres with a similarly qualified buddy and qualify as an Open Water Diver and Dry Suit Diver.
In the PADI Open Water Diver course students learn to use basic scuba gear including a mask, snorkel, fins, regulator, buoyancy control device and a tank. The best way to learn to dive is in personal, professionally fitted high quality scuba diving equipment. Students who purchase their own equipment before completing Open Water Dives or immediately afterwards tend to dive more and become better divers. We provide the majority of equipment including a high quality dry suit and thermal undersuit but for hygiene reasons students should provide their own mask, snorkel, fins and boots.
Are there any restrictions?
Participants should be aged 12+ and in reasonable physical health. There is a medical questionnaire all participants will be required to complete prior to joining an Open Water Diver class. Please review the questionnaire and ensure that participants do not have any "YES" answers. YES answers do not necessarily mean that an individual would be prevented from diving - simply that a doctor's sign-off is required.
Regrettably Dive Academy is unable to offer refunds for cancellation due to a "yes" answer when completing a medical form at the start of the course - please review the questions prior to purchasing a gift card.
