Black Friday

Black Friday was originally named as the day US retailers turned a profit. Retail margins aren't particularly huge but the sales on the day after the last Thursday in November, when Americans celebrate Thanksgiving, are significant enough that historically that would be the day retailers finish paying their bills for the year and start to make a profit.

In 2020 the world has turned upside down. For traditional bricks and mortar retailers it's been about wondering not if we'll make a profit, but if we'll survive. Our customers were amazing after the first lockdown, and we had a very busy summer, however undoubtedly as the safest place to shop more sales have gone online.

And so we arrive at what has become a frenzied day of bargains. And as a small retailer we need to understand how we can best serve you in the face of what we're sure will be some pretty amazing pricing out there,

It's not usual for a dive shop to tell you to go and look at the online price - and at the end of the day there are lots of reasons to buy from your local dive store. They're generally informed and knowledgeable which means you'll get good advice, if they haven't dived the product you're looking at they'll likely know a member of their team who has. Most places will set up your equipment for you - bench test the regulators, tie on the bolt snaps, fit the BCD or dry suit hose to your regulators. If anything goes wrong they'll be there, in person, not on the end of an email account or a phone. Finally, they'll be here for you when you want to talk or go diving, get an air fill, meet other people who dive and the like.

But at the same time price is an incredible driver. You worked hard for your money and therefore why wouldn't you want to spend less of it and still get the 'same' thing.

If it's at all possible without losing money, we'll take the price, including VAT and delivery, and match it for you. We'll be available on the phone from 8am-8pm to chat diving and take your orders. If you're local we'll arrange a collection appointment, if you're not we'll ship it to you.

If you can't be bothered to trawl the websites, but you want something shiny then give us a call. We generally check our prices fairly regularly anyway so we know where to look. We'll find the best online price we can, and then try to match it.

There's one catch - we won't price match your local dive shop. They're a small business just like us, and they will have been struggling this year too, so if you've got a great price with great service from people you know just down the road then we'd prefer you shopped with them.

  • We will endeavour to match prices from UK based retailers, including VAT and any delivery costs.
  • To request a price match you will need to provide us with details of the item and the website where you have found the price information.
  • The item you want us to match has to be in stock with the price matched supplier in the size and colour (if applicable) you would like to order.
  • If we don't have the item you want in stock, we're happy to order from suppliers we have accounts with, however special order items will be non-refundable unless faulty, even if shipped to you - this is in accordance with the distance selling regulations.
