All the details:
A bumper brace of wrecks, these are arguably Swanage's finest. The ‘Kyarra’ was a twin-masted schooner-rigged steamer. She was built in 1903 by the W. Denny Brothers ship builders, Dumbarton on the river Clyde, Scotland. One of the South Coast's finest wrecks and 127 metres in length (for comparison the Thistlegorm is 128 metres) and with holds still bursting with perfume, champagne, stout, red wine, vinegar bottles, sealing wax, medical supplies, dentists porcelain teeth, collar studs, gold, silver and brass watches, pipes, fountain pens, lead printing blocks, printing paper, copper pipe, dinner sets, comic books, silk, fabric, brass picture frames and hockey sticks. Discovered in the late 1960s, she was struck by a torpedo from UB-67 in 1918. Sitting in 30 metres and 9 metres tall, you'll need to be Advanced Open Water Diver and also own and be comfortable using a DSMB to dive this wreck. The Valentine tanks were experimental tanks that sank during trials before D-Day. There are seven tanks in all, but only the location of two are known. The last time we dived these they were absolutely teeming with life including some rather large resident conger eels. This is a two dive trip, with a break in the middle. Ropes-off for the Kyarra is 11.20am, ropes-off for Valentine tanks is 5.05pm so we will have a couple of hours in the middle to catch our breath, have some lunch and maybe a dive under the pier which in itself is great diving. Ropes-off means be on the boat or miss out so you really need to be there and kitting up by 10.30am latest, earlier if you want to take your time. Currently there are only six places due to social distancing. Depending on how things ease up there may be more nearer the time so once it is full please do let us know if you'd like to be added to a waiting list.
